Another world is possible: 25 years later

An evening to discuss the visionary program of the Global Social Forum and the 2001 protests of Gothenburg and Genova that changed forever the destiny of the No Global movement.

Malmö Antifascista will be in conversation with Shora Esmailian and Catia Gregoratti, who joined the movement and took part in these events firsthand. Together, they will revisit the protests through original footage from the time and discuss their lasting impact and legacy.

The event will be held in English.

Shora Esmailian is a journalist, author, and public speaker whose work focuses on social justice, migration, the Middle East, and political movements, with a particular interest in Iran and contemporary global issues. Twenty-five years ago, she was active in the anti-globalization movement in Stockholm and traveled to Gothenburg during the 2001 EU summit, staying at Hvitfeldtska gymnasiet, the school that was stormed by the police.

Catia Gregoratti is a Senior Lecturer in Political Science at Lund University. Her research explores corporate power, global governance, and gender equality from a feminist political economy perspective. Twenty-five years ago, during the 2001 G8 summit, she took part at the Genova Social Forum and participated in the events that led to the violent raids carried out by the police forces in the Diaz School.
